Gelato Chronicles 2 – Fior Di Latte cont.

HaaZaaaa!!!… It worked!! hahaha… In case you didn’t read the last entry, I left off pending the result of the second attempt at Fior Di Latte gelato. The first being an absolute failure. I tweaked the recipe and took another shot. We invited my parents down for lunch. They brought a bottle of red and my wife made carbonara, a true roman classic and a fan favorite around here. Especially with pancetta we brought back from Rome. yeah yeah I know…
guanciale is traditional. Guess what?? we also used rigatoni, not traditional either, but it was goOood. Hey, as if you would have turned it down… ah hem…ah sorry about the food nerd tangent. Anyways, The carbonara was fantastic and the wine was tasting great as well. Naturally the logical follow up to the semi traditional Italian lunch…Gelato! Time to crack out the Fior Di Latte 2.0.

I pulled it from the freezer an allowed to hang out at room temp for about 15 minutes or so. Gelato is usually served around 10 degrees, give or take. When it warms a bit it softens and the flavors really shine through as the velvety texture coats the tongue. From there it was time to serve. “G Day”.. you know…. like “D Day” but for gelato…. Anyways I got into it with the first scoop and to be honest, it was looking pretty darn good…

I dished everyone up and to say the least it was a hit. It really worked!! My wife was happy. My father gave me the “it’s ok” . He doesn’t really say much, the fact that he said that means he actually really likes it. We all did in fact. All together it was a pretty great lunch! I can’t always bring my baby to Rome but we can at least bring a little… scoop?.. of Rome here…

I’m not sure who’s out there reading these but I hope you enjoyed my little story. I’ll follow up with the next falvour challenge and of course the video and recipes.
